Activities on the Sand & Surf

Beyond swimming and soaking up the sun, Amelia Island's beaches invite exploration and activity:

Shelling & Shark Tooth Hunting:

Scan the tide lines, especially after storms or near Fort Clinch and Amelia Island State Park, for beautiful shells and fossilized shark teeth – a favorite island pastime!

Surfing & Bodyboarding:

Catch waves at various spots along the coast. Remember that surf leashes are required by local ordinance.

Fishing:

Cast a line directly from the surf (Florida saltwater fishing license may be required) or fish from the George Crady Bridge Fishing Pier at Amelia Island State Park.

Walking, Jogging & Biking:

The firm, packed sand near the water's edge is perfect for a scenic walk, run, or even a bike ride (beach cruisers recommended).

Wildlife Watching:

Keep an eye out for shorebirds, dolphins playing offshore, and during the winter months (Nov-Mar), the occasional migrating North Atlantic right whale.

Picnicking & Games:

Many main access parks, such as Main Beach and Seaside Park, offer picnic tables and grassy areas perfect for lunch or games like volleyball.
