Beach Safety & Etiquette

Help keep Amelia Island's beaches safe and beautiful for everyone by observing these guidelines:

Lifeguards:

Look for lifeguard towers at main access points like Main Beach, Seaside Park, and Peters Point. Lifeguards are typically on duty seasonally (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day) during daytime hours, weather permitting. Note: State Park beaches generally do not have lifeguard services. Always check beach condition flags and be aware of rip currents.

Protect Wildlife & Habitat:

Stay off the dunes and use designated walkovers. Avoid marked sea turtle nests (May 1 - Oct 31) and turn off beachfront lights at night during nesting season. Never feed or disturb wildlife.

Key Rules:

NO Glass containers are allowed on any beach. NO Alcohol consumption is permitted on City or County beaches. NO FIRES are allowed from May 1 - Oct 31; fires may be seasonally restricted at other times and locations (check local ordinances). Dogs MUST be leashed at all times on city and county beaches (dogs are generally not allowed on State Park beaches). Always scoop the poop!

Leave No Trace:

Pack out everything you bring in. Personal items, such as chairs, tents, and toys, must be removed from the beach between 8 PM and 6 AM, or they may be discarded.
