Parks, Playgrounds & Beachcombing

Beachcombing (Shark Teeth & Shells):

Hunt for treasures along the shore! Low tide, especially near Fort Clinch and toward Cumberland Island Sound, is prime time for finding shark teeth (including Megalodon!). Winter storms often wash up beautiful shells like lightning whelks and heart cockles.

Central Park

Located at Atlantic Ave & S 13th St, this park offers multiple shaded play areas, picnic spots, and sports facilities, including public tennis courts (see Sports & Recreation).

Fort Clinch State Park

A must-visit blending history and nature. Explore the well-preserved 19th-century fort, hike or bike miles of trails through maritime hammocks (see Trails section), enjoy beach access for swimming and shark tooth hunting, fish from the pier or shoreline, and camp overnight.

Main Beach Park

Features a large playground right next to the beach access point on N Fletcher Ave, complete with picnic areas and restroom facilities.

Peters Point Beachfront Park

Offers convenient beach access with parking, restrooms, and showers. It serves as a starting point for horseback rides on the beach.

Pirate Playground

A favorite for younger children located near Central Park, featuring themed climbing structures, accessible play equipment, and fun water features (check seasonal operation).
